Since the end of the single contest Disc Dog era, there has been a desire from many in the Disc Dog community to find out who really is the World Champion.
Having 4 different World and/or International Champions has been a fact of life in the Disc Dog world since the turn of the millennium. The 21st century has seen some great teams and great performances, but what the new era of Disc Dogging has been missing is a single champion, one person that sits atop the Disc Dog world and basks in the glory of being the best.
I’ve been one of the people that have thought this a pipe dream, and a fairly unnecessary endeavor, as I don’t find crowns and titles to be of as much importance as respect and admiration of the community for a great player, but over the last few years, I’ve found the idea of several different champions being crowned without competing against one another, to be a bit disheartening.
I think it drives the community into groups based upon their allegiance
to one organization or another. I don’t need to name names or call out
this club or that club, but we all know that there are groups that
believe so strongly in one organization, or dislike another
organization enough to not attend their contests.
This separates and segments the Disc Dog community. Many times this is
done based upon strong leadership and personalities of important
players in clubs or regions.
